Shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy sound waves to help your body heal injured tissue. Its technical name is Extracorporeal shockwave therapy or ESWT for short.
Shockwave therapy causes an effect in our body called cellular mechanotransduction. Because shockwave is effective at a cellular level it doesn’t just reduce pain, it actually helps heal you through tissue remodeling and regeneration! It is especially good at aiding in healing in issues related to muscles, tendons, and joints!
Did you know that there are a couple different types of shockwave therapy?
Radial shockwave disperses energy outward from the applicator, creating a broader and more superficial treatment area. It is often helpful for larger muscle groups, general tightness, and more surface-level conditions.
Focused shockwave concentrates the energy into a specific point and can penetrate much deeper into the body. This allows it to target deeper tissues such as tendons, ligaments, joints, and chronic injury sites more precisely. Because the energy is focused rather than dispersed, it can often provide better results for stubborn or long-standing injuries that are located deeper below the surface.

Is shockwave therapy painful? You will feel the shockwave therapy working - that is for sure, but most patients say that it is very tolerable, even pleasant. We can always treat you within your comfort level and still get results. It is nowhere near as invasive as surgeries done on similar issues that you might have.

How many sessions will I need? The number of sessions will vary. Many people will only need a few sessions due to our technique and advanced equipment that we have to use. Others may need 6-10 treatments but continue to improve even after treatment is done.

Is it covered by insurance? Insurance does not cover shockwave therapy at this time, which is why we offer discounts when treatment packages are purchased. Even without insurance coverage, it is still much cheaper than surgeries that might be performed for similar issues..

How quickly will I see results? Many patients will see improvements in only 1 or 2 treatments.
